21 Days with the Bhagavad Gita

The Gita begins with a man who cannot go on, and ends with him ready to act. This path follows that arc in 21 short steps. Each day has one verse, one question to sit with, and one small thing to try. Read in the morning, carry the question through the day, and come back to it in the evening. Miss a day? Simply continue. The verse will wait.

  1. Day 1: When the body says no (Bhagavad Gita 1.28) — Where in your life does your body react before your mind has decided?
  2. Day 2: Sitting down in the chariot (Bhagavad Gita 1.47) — What have you put down, or wanted to put down, because it felt too heavy to carry?
  3. Day 3: The first answer (Bhagavad Gita 2.11) — Which of your worries are about things that will matter in a year, and which are not?
  4. Day 4: What changes, and what doesn't (Bhagavad Gita 2.13) — What in you has stayed the same through every age and stage of your life?
  5. Day 5: Bearing what passes (Bhagavad Gita 2.14) — Which discomfort today could you simply let pass instead of fighting it?
  6. Day 6: Your right is to the action (Bhagavad Gita 2.47) — What would you do differently today if you cared only about doing it well, not about how it turns out?
  7. Day 7: Like the ocean (Bhagavad Gita 2.70) — What desires flow into you each day, and which ones disturb you the most?
  8. Day 8: Acting without clinging (Bhagavad Gita 3.19) — Is there a duty you do resentfully? What would change if you did it freely?
  9. Day 9: Your own path (Bhagavad Gita 3.35) — Where are you trying to live someone else's life instead of your own?
  10. Day 10: Action within stillness (Bhagavad Gita 4.18) — When are you busy but not really acting, and when are you still but deeply engaged?
  11. Day 11: Learning with humility (Bhagavad Gita 4.34) — Who in your life could you learn from, if you approached them with an open question?
  12. Day 12: The same eyes for all (Bhagavad Gita 5.18) — Whom do you instinctively look down on, or up to?
  13. Day 13: Be your own friend (Bhagavad Gita 6.5) — How do you speak to yourself when you fail?
  14. Day 14: A lamp in a windless place (Bhagavad Gita 6.19) — What are the winds that make your mind flicker?
  15. Day 15: The restless mind (Bhagavad Gita 6.35) — Krishna agrees the mind is hard to control. Does that make your struggle feel less lonely?
  16. Day 16: A leaf, a flower (Bhagavad Gita 9.26) — What small offering could you make today, with love rather than for credit?
  17. Day 17: The friend of all (Bhagavad Gita 12.13) — Is there someone you find hard to wish well?
  18. Day 18: Not disturbed, not disturbing (Bhagavad Gita 12.15) — Do you leave people calmer or more agitated after you have been with them?
  19. Day 19: The qualities of knowing (Bhagavad Gita 13.8–13.12) — Which of these qualities (humility, patience, honesty, steadiness) do you most want to grow in?
  20. Day 20: Gifts of character (Bhagavad Gita 16.1–16.3) — Which of these virtues already lives in you, even if quietly?
  21. Day 21: Reflect, then choose (Bhagavad Gita 18.63) — Krishna ends by telling Arjuna to reflect fully and then choose. What will you take from these 21 days?
