The most misread verse in the Bhagavad Gita is perhaps 2.47: 'You have the right to action alone, never to its fruits.' Nishkama karma — desireless action — is not indifference. It is action at full intensity, without the anxiety of outcome controlling the quality of the action itself.
Karmanye vadhikaraste ma phaleshu kadachana
"You have a right to perform your prescribed duties, but you are not entitled to the fruits of your actions."
— Bhagavad Gita, 2.47
